Part One: A Guide to Essential Oils

An excellent essential oil to use in everyday cleaning. It has a fresh clean scent as well as being antiseptic, anti-fungal, and antiviral. It will also give you a burst of energy! I have used Lemon mixed with vinegar to clean my microwave with a little help from my “Angry Mama” microwave cleaner. I picked up this little gadget at Target for around $10, and it is amazing! It uses vinegar and Lemon Oil and steam to help get rid of all the tough stains while being safe and natural. Bonus points for the fact that it leaves my apartment smelling fresh and clean!

This was a life saver during my time in college, and is probably one of the most popular and well-known of the essential oils. It is extremely versatile and has a lot of benefits for your daily life. I have used lavender oil during many sleepless nights. By using it in my diffuser, applying a few drops to my pillow, or simply smelling it from the vile, it helped me to relax and fall asleep. During stressful times, I like to apply lavender to my wrists and on back of the ear for a calming effect. Bonus, since it smells so wonderful it acts as an all-natural perfume while keeping you calm in anxious situations, and it is perfect for a bath time luxury!

Has an earthy aroma that uplifts the mind and is great for grounding. When you are in need of deep prayer or mediation, it can be used to enhance your experience. Frankincense is also great for beauty and pampering. It is a powerful astringent, which means it protects skin cells; therefore, it can be used to reduce acne blemishes, diminish the appearance of large pores, prevent wrinkles, and even tighten skin naturally. This oil can be used anywhere on the skin you feel has become a bit saggy over the years. For pampering, you can add frankincense to a hot bath after a long stressful day.

Essential Oils have been around for thousands of years and were mankind’s first medicine. They are the volatile liquids that are distilled or extracted from plants, flowers, leaves, and other various elements found in nature. Essential Oils can be used for a large variety of things, such as an all-purpose cleaner, a natural mosquito repellent, help with anxiety, detoxifying your home, and beauty.

In Part One of my series, I’ve chosen to share the key oils that I go to both for Home and Wellness and for Beauty. These are the essential oils that I use most often—as much for their amazing fragrance as for their effectiveness. One of the greatest things about using these natural products is that no matter what specific purpose I am using them for they always bring with them a sense of peace and centeredness with their amazing aromas. They have an energy all their own—that is to be sure! Stay tuned for Part two where I will talk about healing crystals and how to use them in your everyday life.
