Just one serving (1 tablespoon in powder form) provides a healthy dose of protein, B1, B2, B3, iron, magnesium and a multitude of other nutrients that are often difficult to get from our average diet. It is easy to add to your daily smoothies, or sprinkle on your salad, but it has a potent taste, so we suggest starting with just a sprinkle and building from there.

We are inundated daily with lists of foods that we should and should not be eating. While it is easy to navigate some of this advice (we all know that vegetables are good for us) sometimes it can be confusing to determine what to stock our cupboards with or  put in our smoothies. We decided to take a look at some of the less talked about “Super Foods”.

Used in the ancient traditions of Chinese Medicine and Ayruveda—both of which have traditionally been more focused on long-term holistic well-being over disease intervention—these foods have been used for centuries, both as natural medicine and as elements of a daily diet that promotes longevity and wellness. All of them are in our personal pantries and we use them on a regular basis (though not every day) as a part of our intention to live balanced, healthy lives. As we have learned more about the natural foods that are available to us, we have taken the time to research their proper use, learned what benefits each one may offer, and, most importantly, learned to listen to our own individual bodies. We don’t need every herb, powder and vitamin daily. Our bodies flow and fluctuate on their own natural rhythms, responding to the individual stresses that each of us may be experiencing at the time. We believe that natural, healthy living is a process, it’s about education and fostering an intimate understanding of our own bodies and their personal needs. We find that the more we learn, the more our bodies “speak to us” about what they are wanting to be as healthy as possible.
